Chinese tech major Xiaomi will launch its first gaming phone under the Redmi brand by the end of this month, as per a report by MyFixGuide. The smartphone company had earlier teased the smartphone sometime back and has now officially confirmed it via Weibo. With the Redmi gaming phone, Xiaomi has now forayed into the gaming smartphone segment.
As per the report the gaming phone is positioned as “main game machine, main flagship + hard-core game function.” As per earlier leaks, there are certain specifications you can expect with the game. The gaming phone is rumoured to come powered with the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset. The chipset is the world’s first 6nm smartphone chipset on the TSMC design and comprises 1x Ultra Cortex-A78 core (clocked @ 3GHz), 3x Super Cortex-A78 Cores @ 2.6GHz and 4x Efficiency Cortex-A55 Cores @ 2GHz.
The phone is said to bear the model number “M2104K10C” and the code name of “Ares,”. Other speculated features include a 144Hz refresh rate AMOLED display and 5000mAh battery that comes with 65W fast charging. The phone may also have shoulder triggers like other current gaming phones like Asus ROG Phone 5 and Lenovo Legion.
The gaming phone will first come to its native market. It is not yet known whether Xiaomi plans to launch the phone in India. If it does, it would face off against Asus that launched the powerful ROG 5 series of the smartphones in the country recently. In China, it already has phones from companies such as Nubia and Lenovo to give it a stiff competition. As per rumours, Lenovo also seems set to launch its gaming phone–the Legion 2 Pro– soon.
