It was a matter of time, isn’t it? The ‘glorious’ ad-free run of Instagram Reels is coming at an end. According to a report by Engadget, full-screen ads are set to arrive in Reels and India will be amongst the first markets where they will pop up. The report states that apart from India, the countries were ads in Reels will come are Germany, Brazil and Australia. In other countries, ads will come in the next few months.
The report also sheds light on how ads will appear. The ad spots will be very much like those Instagram ads in Stories. “Ads can run up to 30 seconds, and users can interact with them the way they would with organic posts (including skipping them altogether),” states the report. The ads may also have ‘shop now’ buttons, which presumably take users to the advertisers’ site or Instagram page.
Interestingly, the feature is announced a day after Instagram launched its first consumer marketing campaign in India. According to a report by The Economic Times, the campaign is aimed at ‘celebrating’ creators and their creativity in Reels. The campaign is called “Do Your Thing”.
Reels is Instagram’s answer to TikTok and allows users to create short videos. The marketing campaign in India will include a series of 15-second ads and highlight AR, music and editing features that creators can use on Instagram Reels.
Meanwhile, the Engadget report also reveals that Instagram is looking at sticker ads for Stories. These ads are meant for ‘influencers’ mainly and allow them to link “to specific products their followers can buy.”
